Alex Lee(李崗霖) - I Didn't Go Away(我沒有走開) Album Thoughts(Mando-pop)
I haven't done a Chinese music post in little while so here comes a post on a singer I found called Alex Lee. Won't say that i know much about him but I liked how hi album cover looked. So I then searched a few of his music videos up on youtube. From there, I was set to give his full album a listen based on the music videos I saw and loved. This was another instance of me thinking that I was going to get one genre of music before I started listening to the album. Alex Lee was determined to proved me wrong based on the track list contained in I Didn't Go Away. He has more than a few albums in his discography so I can assume that he isn't a new artist. The older music he sang before the release of I Didn't Go Away seemed to be focused on piano based music. Alex goes with a rock pop style for the main singles on the album but thats not all. He doesn't abandon his old style, using it as the core of most of the tracks. I came for the rock pop style that I heard in his music videos and stayed mostly for that. I loved the arrangement of rock mixed with Chinese traditional instrumentation. The other tracks are pop rock alternative in an acoustic presentation along with a little jazz piano male/female duet. It was surprising how the pop rock music style was held off until the later part of I Didn't Go Away. I've enjoyed most of the album throughly except for a few songs sounding similar to each other.
Alex Lee has a big voice inside him. His vocals are perfect for different types of music. I just really like him singing rock alternative more than other styles. Everything seems right during his rocker moments on the album. Not to mention this boy can get loud when he wants to.
I Didn't Go Away was a nice experience that I found by chance. I'm actually a fan that liked his music right away. That rarely happens to me after only listening to one song. I'll put the music video below for everyone. Enjoy!!!!!
