Rhydian Vaughan(凤小岳) - Seven(柒) Album Thoughts (Mando- Alternative)

I know Rhydian Vaughan from the same films that I believe everyone into stuff from Taiwan is into. I He was great in Monga and Girlfriend, Boyfriend. Both films are sitting on my East Asian cinema shelf. However, Who he was kinda ended there for me. Doing a quick search shows that he still does television as well as has a family. It didn't cross my mind that he was multiracial- He always looked kinda exotic.. I guess. Rhydian who's stage name is Feng Xiaoyue, can add upcoming vocalist to his list of accomplishments. Seven is his first full length album after singing on and off through out the years.

Oh.. Seven as an album as a ton of potential. If only the tracks presented the overall great idea in an interesting way. I hear the talent but the tracks just don't quite live up to what was suppose to be. Rhydian gives an album full of alternative acoustic sounds supported by violins, a band, and even pop beats. All the while, the album still manages to feel calm and peaceful. I can hear so many different influences, from British eighties rock to classical music. Where the problem comes is that none of the music never really stuck for me or blew me out of the water. I've found maybe three songs that I liked out of the whole album. Some of the tracks need a bit more production to give that finishing gloss.  He gets an A for effort from me at least.

Vaughan could challenge himself a tad bit more as a vocalist. Sometimes I hear him going for a high note. Then he quickly ends it before the listener really gets to enjoy his vocal. His best vocal performance his Seven's closing number which is a little sad in my opinion.

I hope Rhydian Vaughan continues to do music. I believe his sophomore album will sound a bit more solid than this debut. This was like a test run in my eyes.
