FAKY( フェイキー) - Unwrapped Mini Album Thoughts(Jpop)

FAKY is a four member girl group that has been out since 2013. They're signed under Avex Trax's sub-label: Rhythm Zone. Most of the girls releases up to recently have been digitally. Rhythm Zone announced that FAKY would have a major debut but it was pushed back constantly. Finally, they had their first physical CD release titled Unwrapped.

Tracklist:
1.Keep Out
2.Candy
3.Are You OK?
4.Surrender
5.Bad Things
6.Someday We’ll Know
8.Keep Out (Remute Club Mix)
9.Candy (Yamata Remix)

Unwrapped is Faky's third mini album release and their first album to hit stores. I have heard Faky's name being said a few times but I never listened to their music before. Lil Fang(FAKY's leader) did a collaboration with rock band Back-on a few years ago so I was mostly aware of FAKY from this. The tracks on Unwrapped remind me of american girl groups back when I was in elementary school. Their song lyrics contain enough English to appeal to foreign fans and these lyrics outline a techno pop style. I enjoy a trip down memory lane containing music that brings back old girl power pop tunes. FAKY doesn't stop there. Each track's lyrics are about girls taking the lead in romantic relationships. They sing about being strong to support their love. Not being easily controlled by man but instantly taking their own stance in their decisions about love. Every track is also a dance number. You won't have to wait long in order to dance alone in your room. Just pop Unwrapped into your iTunes library.

These girls can sing a song with powerful vocal range. No doubt about it. Lil Fang is always there in Faky's songs to hit those belt notes like a batter hits a home run out of a baseball park. At least some of the members speak English well too. Falky is the perfect example of a Japanese Jpop girl group with foreign sounding vocals.

I recommend that everyone go check out Faky's music on youtube and listen to their debut album. I do worry about their album sales because these girls are the opposite of the female idol groups that dominate the Japanese music charts. Hopefully they tap into the Japanese listeners that made Exile Tribe, Flower, and E-girl's popular.
