Long time rapper, MC MONG is back with his seventh album called "U.F.O."(Utter Force On). The man keeps releasing music even though the Korean public hasn't been in favor of him for a while now.(People still listen to his music though... his songs top music charts too.) He kept avoiding his mandatory military service like other entertainers in the past. To do this, he had work done on his teeth over the time he was suppose to go in and I guess somebody caught on to him. Might as well just go ahead and get your service done and over with so it's completed. I also feel like some rules need to made for entertainers who are suppose to enlist. Two to three years is a long time to not be making music or not being involved in whatever field of entertainment your in. Entertainers are people like the general public and some people feel like they should be treated like everyone else. However, They make their money from entertaining the public so I think that rules need to be made to either shorten the time they have to serve or replace the it with another type of service. Being out of the public eye for a long time does effect your career and your income. Protecting your country is important too but South Korea will still be there when your rich and when your poor.
"U.F.O" has MC MONG return doing the same style of music his been doing for the last who know how many years. He's one of that rapper who took underground rap/hip hop and merged it with dance pop for a more mainstream sound. I first started listening to his music when he did the some Love 911 with K.Will years ago. A lot of Korean music fans don't know anything about that era of Korean music but let me tell you... IT WAS LIT BACK THEN. From there, I kept up with his music. This album mostly has female singers as features besides Kim Tae Woo and another singer. "Allee" was brought back once again to sing for the opening track and sounds as good as always. I'm kind of over hearing him do sing with her though. While I love her as a vocalist, he singing style can be redundant. It seems like she sings the same way all the time. I could guess the notes she was going to hit because she hits the same two high notes in every song. The song overall was a nice listen but nowhere near as good as some older tracks of his. Even the song she was featured in on his last album was better. The rest of the female vocalists should be called the ban of high squeaky voice sisters. One girl's voice hit those high notes to the point that I thought one my earbuds had broke in my ear. At least some of the songs had danceable beats and emotional filled lyrics to aid a person when they have lover problems. I was happy to hear Kim Tae Woo feature on a track but the track brought nothing new to his discography. The track sound like it was made to Tae Woo with it's funk eighties disco feel. I liked the song but I feel like I won't remember it later on down the road since it wasn't exciting enough. So much good music... so little time......
MONG always sounds like a father figure when he rappers. Like a man with wisdom who is trying to teach you a lesson so you won't make the same mistakes he did. I want to call him papa hyung so bad right now! [INSERT ME LAUGHING ] That voice just sounds so homely and wise. I'm not sure if he actually speaks english well but the english parts in his songs never seem out of place. Korean and english lyrics flow together well, even having the english lyrics make for a catchy bridge in certain tracks. Rap duo Mighty Mouth does this very well too and both acts merge pop and rap together for this new hybrid sound. I don't have a problem with his rapping and not much to really comment on. He's good in his own right.
I really need to listen to this album a few more times. "U.F.O" is for fans who has liked MC MONG'S music in the past. The last album was a lot stronger than this one to me. Maybe because he had more inspiration while sitting in a jail cell. Having experiences like that will ignite creative emotions in people......
