The Grapes(더그레입스) - Trivial Mini Album Thoughts (K-indie)

The Grapes is a South Korean rock band composed of two members. Both play guitar and one sings. They are more in the indie scene where not too many people know about them. I found out about them from my Youtube recommendations when their Flying Jacket music video came out. Trivial is their first complete album.

Track List
  • Flying Jacket
  • Lights Out
  • Doesn't Feel the Same
  • Wish You the Best
  • Summertime

Trivial is mostly sung in English. The album is a pop rock album that slides along perfectly with the summer waves at the beach. The sound feels very much like the summers in the California. Think pop rock in the early 2000s that brings love songs back for the listeners that lay on their beds in their rooms. Some of the English pronunciation goes in and out in the songs which isn't a deal breaker overall. It's just something I noticed though. Flying Jacket and Wish You The Best are the best tracks in my opinion. Wish You The Best is a smooth pop number that sings about not telling your true feelings to a person you just let get away. I wish that they had gotten up enough money to make a music video for this track. The song gets no love outside of a live performance video filmed at the Han River. That acoustic version isn't bad either.

The vocals are good. I like that mid tone to his voice. There's a deepness that makes him sound mature. I would like to hear this duo sing in Korean or do a Korean/English album.

I didn't know that they were even brothers. Anyways, Trivial isn't a bad debut. I see the potential for the future. I'll be looking forward to another release.
