Kenny Khoo(邱鋒澤) - LINES Album Thoughts (Mando-pop)

 

    Hello everybody! I haven't done a Taiwanese pop music post in some time.... Mainly because I don't have time to blog like I use to but HEY, I'm still here at least making an effort right? This artist originated from Singapore and became widely known in the Taiwanese entertainment scene due to reality television that led to a music career. His name is Kenny Khoo. Lines is his most recent album to date.

     Lines is a mostly English language album. Khoo being from Singapore makes the most sense due to this. Production leans more towards Alt pop and pop rock that you would hear in the states. I kept thinking about Harry Styles on tracks like Radio Mars or Flames of You. The instrumentals are very guitar driven with bouncy pop beats that feel free and playful. Lines can be called a fun pop record with an emotional under belly. The one full non English song is actually my favorite track. It's probably the most hard hitting track on the album. Khoo's vocal performance is the most stand out here too. 

     Khoo has a husky quality in his voice that comes out when he hits an emotional stride.  He has a very alternative pop tone that works to give a rebellious freedom to his music. I really enjoyed his tone during my second listen of Lines. 

   Lines is a great listen if you want a bilingual record to drive around with. I'm a big fan of artists that try to bring something new to their musical landscape. I'll be listening for Kenny Khoo more often. ENJOY YA'LL!
