WheeSung(휘성)– Transformation Mini album Thoughts(Korean music)

Good morning everyone. A new day as come along with a new review. I thought i would write about an album i gave a listen to last night. Well, early this morning rather as it was breaking day light in the sky. Nothing better than listening to good music while watching the day begin.

Track List:
01. Marry Me (Feat. 상추 Of 마이티마우스)
02. 제껴 (Feat. LE Of EXID)
03. 노래 좀 꺼줘요
04. 얼마짜리 사랑 – 휘성 & 범키 (Feat. 제시)
05. 친구로 남아줄게 (Duet. 긱스)
06. 아무일 없었다는 듯 (Duet. 알리)
07. Kiss (Duet. 에일리)

Veteran singer Wheesung has finally pulled a new mini album out of the cold dark abyss full of OSTs and Duet singles that I never gave a listen to. I figured you would come out with a new album at some point. The album is titled Transformation which makes you think that Mr. Sung would transform from his old musical style to something different but unfortunately only thing that really changed here was his hair color.(Which looks good btw.)
The theme on this album is clearly duets or collaborations since most of the tracks feature a well known artist so Wheesung has almost no alone time. He has the type of voice that can stand well on its own and echo through stadiums.  Its just that he's such a smooth operator so most of his songs are RnB influenced which isn't on a mainstream level in South Korea like Idol Kpop.

In the album, Wheesung returns to the style he does well with song touching subjects of obsessive love and longing. The vocals make you realize why you love Wheesung(if you reading this and your a fan) because not only does he preform each song with perfect vocal tone and pitch but he fills every note with emotion causing the listener to transcend language barriers to feel each songs emotion.

Back to the special guest who took the time to be featured on this album! For the most part, no one held Wheesung back from making a good record. I was super excited to listen to "Marry me" and the song called "How much is your love?" with Bumkey and Jessi. Sangchu of Mighty Mouth did an fantastic job with his rap in "Marry me" you could feel the chemistry between both artists as the song plays. I also really like Sangchu's rap lyrics and the mixture of English an Korean bars.(Sometimes this mixture sounds weird to people who speak both languages but Sangchu pulls it off.)This track might be my favorite on the album with its up and down RnB beat, smooth vocals and, too cool for school rap chorus. Can i just say how much i love Jessi(of unpretty rapstar fame)? The whole Bumkey and Jessi collaboration was mean to be. She's not even in the whole song but her voice just makes you zero in and listen to her when her rap part comes in. Bumpy is another very talented korean RnB singer thats worth checking out. He not only kept up with Wheesung in the song but he also managed to stand out and have his own solo time. The parts he sang with Mr. Sung also blended together quite nicely.(Gosh I sounds like I'm an old grandpa sitting on a porch sampling sips of green tea.)

The only problems I  had with this album was that there was no real upbeat dance number. I was hoping to get at least one song that would make me want to make a fool of  myself and hit the dance floor but that song never came. I'm also not too fond of LE of EXID's voice. Her flow isn't bad but this is over shadowed by the fact that she sounds like a cross between someone who has a really bad cold and teenage boy who's in the stages of puberty. I don't diss her drive of course because i'm sure she worked hard to get where she is and i respect that. I'm just not a fan.

Overal if your a long time fan of Wheesung then this album won't disappoint. I would recommend listening to his older albums like Vocolate and then listening to this album if your reading this and your not familiar with him.
