Kingdom of Storms is a 2023 film that is the first installment of the Creation of the Gods franchise. Wuershan directed the film and the cast who consist of actor Yu Shi, Huang Bo, Fei Xiang, Narana Erdyneeva, Chen Muchi, etc. Much of the film's success comes from China's love for fantasy novel adaptions and how it ties into their deep mystical culture.
The Gods from above attempt to stop the coming of the end of the world by sending a man to stop a war between two kingdoms.
Creation of The Gods puts me in mind of the another film from 2016 called League of Gods. Honestly, the plots are almost the same. The only difference is that Creation focuses more on the human aspect of the story. Wherein, League of Gods had a more Godlike approach to the characters. this film is a family war movie that deals with a lot of backstabbing others or even wrongly influencing others. I don't know how much more of a power struggle these characters could have been in by the end of this film to really justify the ending. I'm not going to lie to you by saying that I wish that the story focused more on the Gods, but maybe that will be saved for the second film. Beautiful fox possessed women need to be left in 2023. It's kinda played out at this point...... Anyways, I enjoyed what fantasy aspects that were shown here. If only that fine wrap of the whole product didn't feel like something that I have seen before.
The sequences involving the God apprentices are the best special effects of the whole film. A lot of the magical stuff is so far in between though. China also needs to work on updating their effects to kinda keep up with other film industries in other parts of the world. Certain big models still look a bit boxy when they should look as real as possible in hindsight.
Creation of the Gods I had a good enough story set up for me to come back for part two. I do hope that if these films are going to be like so many other Chinese fantasy films, then at least play up what everyone actually came to see. I want more fantasy action from the heavens next time around.....
