Ladies on Top or Can a Girl Hug me? is a 2022 manga that was created by Nejiganameta. The series was first released on the web before physical volumes were released bi monthly. Most praised the series for taking on a topic not discussed much in heterosexual relationships.
A work relationship that starts off normal enough but what is really your normal? Especially, when you have a girlfriend who likes to take control sexually and a boyfriend that's more submissive in nature. Will this love have a good ending or will the sex toys be too much for the couple?
What pulled me in about Ladies was the cover art for each cover. Each volume has art featuring the couple( all expect two volumes) that gives the reader the idea of a gushy romance manga series. That is until you find the volume wrapped in plastic wrap...... This isn't your normal workplace romance nor will the content before everyone. All of the conflicts that the couple face are handled really well in the story writing. I'm big on romance seeming realistic when I read any kind of story. The societal standard of what heterosexual gender roles should be is tested with this couples's progression in their love life. There's also a balance of sex/ comedy that works hand in hand but isn't long winded. I liked the side characters even, because they don't derail the story. Ladies On Top is a story about a couple that creates their own normal in a world that tells you you should be like everyone else.
Like I said before, the art style is gorgeous and really sets that style of the story. Most of the panels and character models express emotion well.
Ladies on Top is a solid six volume series. I would use the words sexually free romance to describe this one. A little comedy is there on the side too.
