Huh Gak(허각)- Rolling Music(연서) Mini Album(K-Ballad)
Track List:
01. 愛想 (애상)
02. 혼자, 한잔
03. 없었던 것처럼
04. 그 바람 불면
05. Tell me why
06. 그들만은 아름답도록
I know Huh Gak just because his voice makes him be known. He's not good-looking or has abs of steel. A voice is all he has and it charmed audiences all over Korea. Singing competition Superstar K was where he first got noticed for his talent. From there, he continued to release album ofter album along with collaborations and Drama OSTs. Rolling music is his most recent work to date and none can once again stop him from burning up the Korean music charts.
Huh Gak sticks to what he does best, ballads. Rolling music provides six new tracks that offer stories of love once lost. Koreans love ballads. not just ballads but ballads that will make them weep out like a little girl. for them, its not love if you don't experience some kind of hurt in the long run. So these tracks are basically what Koreans are use to. Sad arrangements such as violin mixed with bass beats. Then Huh Gak adding vocals that can either be powerful or controlled.
Vocals are the best point about this album. Huh Gak's vocals are some of the best to come out of South Korea. If one of the great legendary singers like Kim Bum Soo decided to retire, Huh Gak could take his place easily. I've never listened to a complete album by him because I didn't think his music would provide anything different to the Korean ballad genre. I can say with certainty that he sounds like most ballad singers but his vocal power is all his own. Most of rapper's MC Mong's recent collaborations that were great involved Huh Gak singing the chorus. I'm just not a hardcore fan of his music style. I have to be given a really interesting ballad that sticks with me in order for ballad singers to capture my heart. A select few singers have done that with a few being Kim Bum Soo and Lee Seung Chul to name a few. The track titled Tell Me Why gives a different feel of variety for Rolling Music, showcasing a group vocal with Huh Guk leading and a instrumental containing guitar on top of an RnB beat. Good try at not making this album completely boring style wise.
Vocally, I love Rolling Music. The style for the album is over used though. Producers need to work harder at standing out in this musical category...... Emotion filled ballads are good but I should not need to see the singers face to tell each singer apart.
