My Dangerous Wife(僕のヤバイ妻) Japanese Drama Thoughts

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL! I can't process that a new year has come and that I'll soon be one year older. It feels like it was summer just the other day. You know what older people say. When you get a certain age, life passes by in the blink of an eye. (laughs) I'm only in my twenties but it really does seem like Winter was nonexistent this year. I think thats why leading into the new year seems to have come so fast for me.  Christmas was also in my face before I knew it. We all better live like we're dying if life keeps going by this fast. Accomplish those goals folks! I completely my goal of completely watching a J drama but I didn't finish it before the new year.... Oh well. The drama is titled My Dangerous Wife.

The drama has two directors, Miyake Yoshishige and Kunimoto Masahiro. Probably because they worked on different episodes respectively. Ito Hideaki, and Kimura Yoshino take the front seat as the main two characters while actors like Sasaki Kuranosuke make up a cast of fruitful characters. My Dangerous Wife lasted for about nine episodes in total but it felt like longer than that because of the drama's content.

The plot unfolds its self when a husbands wife is kidnapped and help for ransom. Her husband must race against time to save her before she is killed by her captors. Soon more is revealed and there's more to not only the husband's story but also his wife's. Shocking events unfold.

I originally checked out this drama for Ito Hideaki since I knew him from other films. He became of of my favorite Japanese actors after I watched Lesson of Evil but I don't recommend this film unless you like kill em up thriller films. I only got to experience him in films so far so I had to watch My Dangerous Wife. this drama is relatively short so it was possible that the story could have lagged on the same concept through out the full show. The main story has the type of content that could make the drama a long drawn out kidnapping plot. To my surprise, My Dangerous Wife rejects this idea strongly after episode 1. From there I don't know what the drama had turned into. It was a whole working machine of its own that drove deeper and deeper into a dark hole. Even if it meant destroying some of itself along the way. Viewers are pushed in this deep dark whole too and will love every minute. You are gripped and never let go by a combination of the storyline and it's compelling cast. You know you have a good drama when the opening sequence makes you excited. Each episode builds one a new problem in a human's nature. I felt nervous watching because you can't trust anybody in this drama. Everyone wears their pokerface like its apart of their body.(Thats a good pokerface for you.) Because of all of these qualities, My Dangerous Wife will have you gasping and glued to the screen for nine hours.  Mint by Amuro Namie is the ending theme song for the drama and I wasn't expecting this either. Mint doesn't seem like a good drama insert song but producers made it work smoothly. The drama wears the song like it just bought a new pair of shoes that fit.

Ito Hideaki was type casted kind of for this production as the husband who is thrown around like a rag doll physically and emotionally. He has a dark cunning side but also must show complexed emotions of a man who thinks he had everything figured out only to have everything blow up in his face. Viewers will either hate him or feel sorry for him. A talented actor like him was needed for the constant changes his character goes through based on situations he was put in. I can't picture any other actor playing this role honestly. Kimura Yoshino steals all the spotlight away from Ito as the wife with more than a few secrets in her closet. She's down right brilliant in her role and will confuse the hell out of you if you think too hard to figure her out. Kimura's character controls the flow of the drama on and off screen as well. Characters talk about her a lot whether they realize it or not. Fear will do that to people..... I would also like to mention the actor, Takahashi Issei. He was another actor that whenever he had a scene, my eyes would circle in on him. No, not because of his looks but because his acting has an interesting uneasiness to it. Something about him makes my feel like he's playing up who he really is and has a completely different personality under the surface. I consider him my third favorite character. Chemistry between all of the actors and actresses were at a hundred percent all through out the drama. I only would sit and hold my breath while watching.

The worst thing about My Dangerous Wife is trying to figure out which character you want to root for. Otherwise, nothing else was awful about this drama. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants an exciting Japanese drama to watch. Do take note that this drama can be little violent and isn't your normal fluffy cute love story.
